Groups and Group Spaces

Portal groups and group spaces provide a mechanism for users to manage their own content within a designated space, and to control which users have access to that content.

A Group is a collection of portal users who can be granted access to a group space by associating the group with the group space.  Portal users who do not belong to a group space cannot see or access any content within the space.

A Group Space is a private, collaborative area within a portal in which group members can view and manage restricted content.

  • Site Administrator Instructions – Site Administrators are responsible for the initial creation of groups and group spaces, and for setting permissions of group members.
  • Group Space Member Instructions – Group members can be granted different roles with varying levels of permissions to edit content and/or membership within their group spaces.
  • Group Space Roles – Description of the available roles that can be assigned to the members of a group space.

Enable Group Spaces

Group Spaces are only available by request.  To add the Group Space content type to a portal, contact IMS for assistance.  After the Group Space feature is enabled, this content type can be added to any part of a portal.
