News Items

News items can be added to any folder on a portal, but regardless of where they are created, all news items are contained in the Collections folder within the News folder.  The News folder is located on the navigation pane.  In addition, a News portlet highlighting the five most recent postings is displayed on the right side of the Home page to provide a recap to the users. 

To add a new news item, select Add new > News Item from the toolbar.  On the Add News Item form, provide the necessary information for the following fields: News Portlet

  • Title – The title is a required field and is displayed as the page heading, in the URL, and in search results.
  • Summary – A short description of the content, and although not required, it is useful because it appears below the title when the content is viewed in listings and search results.
  • Text – The text field is for adding and formatting the content body using the Content Editor toolkit provided.  See Pages for more information on this field.
  • Lead Image – An image can be uploaded and a thumbnail of the image is displayed next to the title when the content is viewed in listings and search results.
  • Lead Image Caption – The text that is displayed with the image.
  • Related Items – Contents in different folders of a portal can be linked to one another through this feature.  Proceed to the Categorization tab at the top of the Add News Item form, browse for the related item(s) and place them in the Related Items field. 
  • Allow discussion – Members can post threaded comments and messages about a content.  Proceed to the Settings tab at the top of the Add News Item form and select "Yes" from the Allow discussion drop-down menu to enable this feature.
